WWP, Omnicom, Havas, IPG Mediabrands, JWT and Publicis Media have made some really exciting changes in their Learning and Development and recruitment strategy this year. What have they done? They’ve taken advantage of the Apprenticeship Levy.
Even as we approach the first birthday of the levy, many employers are still struggling to make sense of it – latest figures show a 27% decline in apprenticeship starts.
So why is that even though people are applying to do apprenticeships in the creative industry more than ever and apprenticeship courses have been revamped (now created by ‘employers for employers’) that apprenticeship uptake is dropping?
Well, at Creative Pioneers something we're still finding is that people simply do not know enough about the benefits apprenticeships can bring to your agency.
Let’s look at a few of the key reasons to get started on apprenticeships.
Creating a diverse workforce is high on the agenda for every member of the IPA. Given their accessibility, apprenticeships encourage applications from people from a wide variety of backgrounds and ethnicities. Creative Pioneers are also dedicated to offering opportunities to a diverse range of people and 49% of Creative Pioneers apprentices come from BAME communities.
The employee turnover rate is high in AdLand, with people tending to stay in agencies for on average 15-16 months. Recruiting apprentices in the business can help to combat high turnover rates, the typical apprentice stays at an agency for 2-3 years. This means you have a huge opportunity to grow talent within the business and crucially, the talent that stays in the business.
Future-proof your workforce
Apprenticeships are a great way to help future-proof your workforce and bring in Digital Natives. Encouraging young people to join your agency can help bring new ideas and a fresh perspective.
I’m sure everyone in your agency is super busy so we make the recruitment process as quick and straightforward as possible. Creative Pioneers will screen, filter and shortlist candidates for you. For some jobs we get over 300 applications, so you can be assured that you have access to a huge new talent pool. And the best bit? This is all completely free so you can drive down recruitment costs and save time.
Embed a culture of continuous learning
Apprenticeships encourage people to continuously reflect and learn from what they are doing. This doesn’t just apply to new hires, but to your existing staff as well. Why not enrol your existing staff onto apprenticeship programmes to embed a culture of continuous learning into your agency? They can work towards industry-recognised qualifications in HR, Finance and Management too!
So it is clear that there are some real benefits to getting started on apprenticeships. So how do you get started? It’s simple – get in touch!
