WWP, Omnicom, Havas, IPG Mediabrands, JWT and Publicis Media have made some really exciting changes in their Learning and Development and recruitment strategy this year. What have they done? They’ve taken advantage of the Apprenticeship Levy.

Even as we approach the first birthday of the levy, many employers are still struggling to make sense of it – latest figures show a 27% decline in apprenticeship starts.

So why is that even though people are applying to do apprenticeships in the creative industry more than ever and apprenticeship courses have been revamped (now created by ‘employers for employers’) that apprenticeship uptake is dropping?

Well, at Creative Pioneers something we're still finding is that people simply do not know enough about the benefits apprenticeships can bring to your agency.

Diversity

Creating a diverse workforce is high on the agenda for every member of the IPA. Retention

The employee turnover rate is high in AdLand, with people tending to stay in agencies for on average 15-16 months. Recruiting apprentices in the business can help to combat high turnover rates, the typical apprentice stays at an agency for 2-3 years. This means you have a huge opportunity to grow talent within the business and crucially, the talent that stays in the business.
